Neighbor Please, Be Your Brother’s Keeper!

A recent city council summary reports 359 calls for illegal camping.  That’s almost 359 Eugenians who’ve basically declared, “I am not my brother’s keeper–come, remove these homeless campers, and exclude them from our community, and please hurry!”

During past discussions I’ve had with police officers about camping, much to their credit, some actually confided to me almost apologetically, wishing they were not being used to deal with homelessness in such a manner, that their time could have been used towards more important priorities.

This proved to me, that the way in which the city uses the anti-camping ordinance to enforce compliance, is a perfect example of good cops having to enforce bad law.

People, simply because you are freely invited to report such incidents, does not absolve you from the karma of additional suffering, you place upon already hopeless and hurting individuals.

Stop complaining, and using our police as proxies for your anger and frustration!  Stop using our police and volunteers to do such dirty work, in denying the homeless what little they have!  If you must call, please request that they check the welfare of those campers instead.

This way, your concerns will be investigated, but you won’t be placing either side under such tense, adversarial situations, complaints will drop, and you’ll feel better about yourselves as first responders, as good Samaritans, instead of overzealous, contemptuous, malicious, and selfish neighbors, having a turf war with themselves.

Behave Does Not Mean Get Out Of Town, Mr. City Attorney!

There are times in heart and mind, when something desperately needs  to be said, yet we realize that only we know what that is, how to say it, or if we should, knowing if we don't, nobody else will.

The result is that others will continue to suffer needlessly, because no one challenges the devil’s advocate, or his absurd, false accusations; whose use of Prohibited Camping Ordinance 4.815, violates the equal protection clause of the constitutions of the State of Oregon and the United States.

When fewlegal options exist, campers are forced to choose the lesser evil as willful violators, and they are damned well justified in defending their freedom of travel, personal privacy, and right to sleep!  Choice of Evils was already used to defend a camper in court; the City did in fact dismiss charges, and set a precedent against its self.

Attorney Glenn Klein, citizens of Eugene–those stripped of citizenship rights, who are at risk of being stripped of all personal belongings–deserve to know in exact detail, how they are expected tobehave.

Before your homies make fools of themselves, and hurt more innocent homeless homies, as willful violators having no compelling state interest, the unconstitutional portion(s) of the ordinance should be severed–not standing in court–because to the best of my knowledge, the amendment was illegally inserted in violation of law, which requires a 10-day public comment period that the citizens of Eugene were denied.  Now, who is the willful violator?

An Appeal to All Legal Professionals

On behalf of the Homeless

     I wish to make a special public appeal to all local defense attorneys specializing in civil and human rights, and the ACLU, to please consider volunteering your legal expertise for the homeless at the Homeless Connect on March 18, 2010, and throughout these difficult economic times. They have no representation, no one to turn to for necessity camping advice against Eugene’s abusive, and unconstitutional, camping ordinance.

     No homeless individual, or family should ever have to lose vehicles, worldly possessions, camping gear, food, or clothing to impound while waiting for the City, or St. Vincent De Paul–but they are!

     Help them to know their rights, to understand and fight against police harassment, illegal searches, public nuisance citations, anti-camping laws, panhandling laws (the most highly resented, in fact hated, constitutionally protected, free speech), and also offer them your pro-bono assistance in homeless related cases of unfair impound of vehicles, storage of personal belongings, or other violations of state laws regarding the removal of homeless from their camps.

     The homeless of Lane County are all misjudged and condemned; and all suffer for that which is clearly beyond their control. “Choice of Evils” defense is a must! Please help them to hang on and survive along their Homeless Trail of Tears!  Thanks.

     I am a formerly homeless resident, grateful for all those pro-bono lawyers and older homeless activists, who stood up for me in my hour of need, in defending my rights and taking back my innocence.

An In-Depth Look At Food Security

For Thanksgiving 2009

First, some definitions of food security, which seem very basic–my own is–when I am hungry, I must always have fresh water, and nutritious, balanced diet, food on hand, on demand, and in my possession to prepare, cook, and serve–and having the propane, stove, and cookware utensils to do it with–without having to depend on soup kitchens 7-days a week; especially in the winter season, if I am sick, during extreme weather, or if I lack transportation. Any thing less than that, automatically becomes food insecurity.

The USDA definition of food security is:

“Access by all people at all times to enough food for an active, healthy life. Food security includes at a minimum: (1) the ready availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods, and (2) an assured ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways (e.g., without resorting to emergency food supplies, scavenging, stealing, or other coping strategies).”

Food insecurity: “Limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods or limited or uncertain ability to acquire acceptable foods in socially acceptable ways.”

Hunger: “The uneasy or painful sensation caused by a lack of access to food. Hunger may produce malnutrition over time…Hunger…is a potential, although not necessary, consequence of food insecurity.”

That was and still is my minimum requirement for survival; difficult to maintain, easier done in a motor-home than from a tent in the wetlands, yet for others it was not possible to even come close to that goal, as it more or less related to stability at one’s campsite; whether your camp equipment was stolen by other homeless predators, or stolen by enforcement predators, in the name of “public sanitation”.

Notice that the government seems to suggest that, along with “scavenging” (in dumpsters), or stealing, “resorting to emergency food supplies” is not socially acceptable, either!  I admit I have rummaged through dumpsters, and I have found some really good food and other usable items ( like a complete working Gateway PC system!), at times, near the University of Oregon! But this is why recycling, or giving leftovers to to poor is better, in my opinion because dumpster diving is hard, dirty work. To hell with the socially acceptable, baloney! Hunger will motivate you, in ways you did not know you could act.

In my definition, I simply meant I did not wish to “depend” on soup kitchens, or food boxes, although I certainly did depend on them, and still do occasionally. No one should feel, or ever be made to feel, so strongly against taking a hand-out from charity, or government food assistance in food stamps that they, or their families, ever go hungry! That is just plain foolish pride! It is difficult enough for some new people who experience unemployment; or homelessness, and hunger due to what the USDA referrers to as “financial resource constraint” , to bring them to join the lines for food, around our community.

As homeless people get older, or become disabled and camp sweeps become bolder, it becomes more of a challenge to store, or carry belongings, and then travel to every food location serving hot meals daily, and it therefore becomes a guaranteed risk to the overall security of that person’s possessions left behind at camp that may very well be stolen, or confiscated, should he or she leave to go eat.

Another thing–as a life-long registered voter, I will never forget that it was every one of you Republican S.O.B.’S who tried to starve myself, and all the poor here in Oregon, when they drastically cut food stamps several years ago, as a part of welfare reform war.

You are the vipers that must be forever, defeated in every way into extinction; as being a murderous, hate-filled, bunch of psychopaths capable and ready again, should you ever come into power, to remove our rights, to use starvation against us because of our food insecurity, and the dire shortages of donations from faith based organizations, that you will have caused by dragging down the economy, while blaming us for it all.

I will never forget–and neither should any one else–that it was the Democrat for whom the majority of us voted, President Barack Obama, who greatly increased the food stamp benefits, right from the start of his election into office; and therefore put more food in our stomach, on a consistent basis for an entire month. Before he did that, I did not experience a sufficient degree of food security, or even enough of what I needed for the entire month; which left me hungry towards the ending weeks, and then after grocery food shopping, or getting a food box, I then had problems keeping myself from binges of overeating !

The sad truth is that a number of you right here in Eugene do, in your ignorance and your contempt-poisoned arrogance, favor denying food to the poor here, and do believe and preach, that it would discourage the homeless from living here. Those of you who would use food denial as a weapon–shame on you, Eugene’s homeless-hating, gang of thugs! So many of you it seems, are addicted to punishment and just driven to insanity to promote criminalization, jail and exclusion, as the only fitting solution to rid yourselves of the civic responsibility to help others less fortunate, who are suffering, or who would otherwise be forced to suffer, if you had your wicked way.

Well, I can say with pride, that we can all give thanks on this Day of Thanksgiving 2009, that here in Eugene, and throughout Lane County, such foul and–no pun intended–disgusting food fights do not happen here, they are just not allowed by the vast majority of its citizens, and thank God for that! The ugly, resentful, food denying mentality of a very few, becomes lost and ignored, in the seasonal cornucopia of tons of total food shipments.

Our food donations do fluctuate up and down, and we have our full times and empty ones, but generally, food boxes are always available every few days, and few if any poor or homeless that I know of, die from starvation, but some must I am sure, experience hunger on a regular basis, due to disruptions in daily living, which makes them more susceptible to the cold winter weather. Proper hydration, having a steady source of fresh drinking water is equally important to health and combating hunger, and can be a problem for displaced homeless persons.

It is true, that citizens of Eugene, are those who eagerly arrest anyone who abuses or neglects horses, dogs, cats, etc., but refuses to do the same to those responsible for the abuse and neglect of its real human citizens, shelter needs.

But the homeless are still blessed to live here, because food is plentiful, and leftovers are processed and frozen, and food is collected by mail carriers, and good, leftover food should not be wasted, it is believed, rather it should be recycled, not simply thrown into a locked dumpster to rot, in the faces of the hungry homeless, living on the streets!

We have a wonderful, organized, multi-agency food bank system, here in Lane County, and a thriving farmers market, and growers market, supplied by dozens of local, family farms; and many grocers and bakeries that provide day old breads, etc, community gardens, several church kitchens, food pantries, the Eugene Mission, and some very generous, anonymous donors.

The only question then becomes, can all of the hungry homeless people get to this food and make use of it, at least two or three times each and every day?

For Thanksgiving, the whole community joyfully, and with much advertised, in-depth, media news reports, annually atones for their willful neglect of the needy exposed to year round weather, with a hearty, delicious, turkey dinner with all of the trimmings and clothing giveaway, that serves well over 1,500 low income and homeless singles, and families with children around the city area; it is lovingly organized, prepared, and served, by an army of hundreds of friendly, dedicated volunteers, in cooperation with the Culinary Arts School students, of Lane Community College, each and every year.  This year marks the 21st. dinner event.

It is a huge feast, that serves many in one day, and is worth the waiting in line; everyone gets a number to keep order; and for having the donations of gloves, socks, hats, blankets, sleeping bags, and other winter necessities that are passed out, along with hot coffee, hot soup, snacks, delivered while waiting for dinner.

Bon-apatite, and Happy Thanksgiving! I myself usually attend this dinner and will do so again, this Thursday!

The false deification of law as justification for laws against vagrancy borne of poverty by Anatole France’s oft-repeated quote has become as repugnant, outdated, untrue, and irrelevant as the quote itself–for one thing, no one needs to steal a loaf of bread here, not even while living under a bridge!

In spite of our shameful, majestically secular humanist laws that seek to forbid only the poor and homeless from sleeping or being in places not meant for human habitation, for it is only they, (not the well-off) who cannot afford to rent or buy a nightly room, or any place meant for human habitation, the homeless will act to the contrary of the public, as the lesser choice of evils.

Homeless humans, will act according to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, and no selfish, self-serving, man-made law but the natural creators law of the human individual’s will to survive, shall ever prevail, fulfilling the need for water, food, shelter, and sleep!

To be punished for doing what is every homeless persons rightful, willful duty to meet these needs, is cruel; is to be personally assaulted and violated with the most condemning social, civil decree or curse to suffering, sickness, and eventual death. Is this the intended consequence? An end to homelessness by attrition? One who is caught in such a position over time, can not help but believe that this is true.

No self-respecting homeless citizen with a backbone, who lives here in Lane County should have to take this abuse of corporate authority, or the confiscation of personal property such as food or the means by which to use it, or by impounding the vehicle which contains it, without seeking immediate legal assistance, and demanding due process in court, for the swift return of all necessity items taken if any, according to State ORS law, and specifically:

H.B. 2482, “Relating To The Removal of Homeless Individuals from Camping Sites on Public

Property”

that requires storing said items for a minimum of 30 days, if they bother keeping them at all, for the owner to retrieve.

The State of Oregon should be pressed to make it an equal crime of “fraud, waste, and abuse” of any, and all AFS food stamp purchased food items, that are wrongfully taken (confiscated), or disposed of, from their rightful, purchaser/owners, in the 24 hour enforcements of illegal camping ordinances by any local, county, or state authority, which leaves the homeless person suddenly, without a place for the self-sufficiency of a personal food supply, as well as the utilities and cooking equipment to prepare and heat it. The 24-hour deadline should, it is strongly recommended by the ACLU, be increased to at least 48 to 72 hours, if no other violations are found.

The State of Oregon should also be pressed to immediately place its homeless residents (citizens) under the very same kind of ombudsman system of rights that state residents of nursing facilities have, to outlaw at the state level, homeless harassment, abuse, neglect, exposure to extreme weather due to sudden enforcement, forced isolation, sleep deprivation, or forced hunger, due to constant disruption, or relocation in relationship to sources of food and water.

The City of Eugene promotes food security for its housed citizens. The City and the Mayor has some time ago, released a statement in support of, and responsibility to advise its housed citizens, and families to keep an emergency supply of blankets, water, food, cooking utensils, fuel, first aid supplies, medication, etc., on hand in the event of a disaster.

Well that’s fine, everyone should have an emergency stash on hand, if possible, but isn’t that a bit hypocritical and insensitive towards the homeless?  I do hope this was was an innocent oversight, because our mayor should see the double standard, and have then and there, thought to herself, “What do I tell the homeless, who have little or nothing on hand, no safe place to keep stuff, or recently had their car, van, or motor-home with all their cooking utensils, and food inside, towed away–quite possibly from Eugene to Springfield, for illegal camping?”

Look into the eyes of the many homeless people here, who live from campsite to campsite, food box to food box, from dinner line, to dinner line, what do you tell them? Be sure to have your emergency supply ready in your closets, too?

No, it’s more like–oh, here’s a list of all of our services, because it’s illegal to camp here.  Here is a couple of useless phone numbers as far as shelter for tonight goes–but just go to the Mission, just go eat here at this church, or go there to get food boxes. How can any one not see that this is not food security for the homeless, but food insecurity, and a recipe for hunger! That is the unfortunate, police policy (pathological policy) we have here; a real rotten, dangerous, adversarial situation for many of our local homeless, who cannot make themselves invisible enough.

Food is vital to an outdoor living, homeless person, because it takes food to generate heat to maintain core body temperatures to prevent hypothermia, and to prevent overheating from heat exhaustion. But cold temperatures, getting clothing soaked by rain or snow storms makes food gathering very hard, keeping warm becomes a priority. “In some areas, your need for shelter may take precedence over your need for food and possibly even your need for water. For example, prolonged exposure to cold can cause excessive fatigue and weakness (exhaustion). An exhausted person may develop a “passive” outlook, thereby losing the will to survive.”

Our dependence on cheap oil and a steady dollar, means that future food security for us all, is just an illusion, and this truth will soon become evident when, not if, the US dollar collapses, or is replaced by another currency, and food quickly, as in overnight, disappears from supermarket shelves, as the wealthy begin to hoard food by the truck load, while what is left on the shelves will be unaffordable to the poor to buy, with their worthless dollars. None of us can predict the utter chaos this will have on our local economy and community. It will drastically affect priorities as to who, where, and how food will be acquired, and who shall receive the food, when, where, how much, or how often.

Emergency food storage is and should be, the concern of every state, including Oregon. The recent banning of Willamette Valley’s grass seed farmers from future burning of their fields, has many of those farmers turning to wheat. We will, we will–tase you!

First of all, I would like to shock you awake from a few of your illusions, if that were possible.  There are good laws, and there are bad laws;  just like there are good cops and bad cops, good lawyers and bad lawyers, good politicians and bad politicians, etc.

Another illusion I wish to destroy, so that it not bind you to eternal ignorance, is that we damn well do torture!  We worship the torturer like a God, and the right to torture–sacred.

We love torture–torturing others, that is–we approve of it with our indolence, our silence, and our passivity.  Hollywood glorifies and glamorizes it in its movies, and with TV shows, like the show “24″ in particular.  We support it, we vote for it, and we demand it, from the highest levels of our military, and federal agencies, to the very local level, every time we arm more police officers with tasers–aka, conductive energy weapons!

Admittedly, we have some of the most ungodly technological weapons, and instruments of destruction, military and civilian, individual, and totalitarian, mass population control, ever devised by man to do it with, not to mention the A-bomb, which could set us back to the stone age (where we might be better off anyway).

Look for more and more of these hideous misuses of technology to be used against the populace, as unrest grows over the failure of the economy, and wars again, soon.

Another illusion I wish to explode in a shower of sparks over your heads is that, it will never happen to you.  It may, or it may not; do not count on your needs, status, or your reason for resisting, or protesting, or simply being an innocent passer-by.  These justifications will not save you from the cattle prodding, tear gassing cowards, behind full combat uniform in your streets.  You have no idea yet what is to come, citizens of Eugene, nor where it shall come from.

Oops!  Sorry, we didn’t mean to shoot you–we meant to tase you!

Admittedly, there are a few lucky people here in Eugene who are alive today because our police now use tasers; and there are other people who would be alive today, had the police had the option of tasing them, instead of shooting them dead.

But what really pissed me off is when I heard that no officers are required in training themselves to be tased for the purpose of knowing what it feels like.  That is so cowardly, and these guys are to be given free choice in their use of tasers against the rest of us?  No, we don’t torture!

Although I personally have never witnessed someone getting tased, I have seen two incidents here in the park I live in, where police have had their tasers drawn, aimed, and ready to trigger at someone, before they even came out of their doors; and in both cases there were other circumstances that probably justified using caution, but not with guns or tasers already drawn, and ready to fire.

ordinary Americans aggressively smoking, or growing pot; or the poor and homeless, who are panhandling; then there’s the busy man or woman on the street, who has become frustrated with them all–sick and tired of being asked to spread a little capitalism among the poor–they can not–but as an anal controler, you can give (or take) from your community!   Because the trickle down economic plumbing system does not work–AT ALL–except where all fun is prohibited by law!

If you have nothing to hide, and you are a well trained, self-starter, try employment as an experienced Nanny!

They will be hired by the thousands to program, promote, and broadcast state propaganda, assist and /or replace parents in raising of their children, in politically and corporate proper behavior, of course!

Earn a good living while monitoring all the rest of us with a paternal, big brother, strick father, all-knowing, iron fist–just in case we threaten to become too exuberant and willful in our rightful, exercise of constitutional, human rights, such as:

looking strange, appearing suspicious–even if we’re not, acting strange–that’s vague; or having something to hide on their person–or not, with the intent to secretly smuggle illegal(?) contraband, in order to self medicate, or to assist, or supply to others while avoiding the nanny’s watchful eye.

Now hiring in your area! Yes, we may want you! Its time to put a copy of your ego on a resume in every employer’s circular file, you’re unemployed, you’ve got the time!

There will also be a high demand for self-motivated, shameless, role models–willing to compromise anything and everything–including their own children in the field of sports, military or civilian, population psy ops or “psychological operations”!  If you excel in disinformation technology, this could be dream job you’ve been waiting for!

Top headhunters are searching for those who possess skills in “sending the right messages” as willing pawns for the ongoing corporate takeover and buyout of our  government–Congress and Senate, taking our precious, constitutional republic–that we no longer have the will to protect and defend with the blood of our military–because we’re already too mired in a horrific war that we were lied into; and still support–as long someone else’s children are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan, for nothing–why not you?  Volunteer at your own risk!

You’ll be earning plenty of overtime and hazardous duty pay for a very, long-term uniform position and many exhausting, mentally challenging, tours of duty, in one of the hot deserts in the word;  fighting an enemy no other invading country’s armies have ever won.

You will have tons of interesting war stories to tell you children, if you survive, and can have children!  Yep, we was fightin’ over there so we didn’t have to fight them here, under your bed, son!  Daddy, Do you think they will ever find Osama BinLaden?

Put your “people skills” to work doing lucrative, satisfying work in the field of:

Doublespeak communications, Webster to Orwellian translators, Animal Farm laborer, Internet sex policing, total mind-controler, sub-liminal advertising, and TV shows, brainwashed for family entertainment;

And for you hard core, gung-ho control freaks–perhaps a rewarding job in the FCC’s strict, zero-tolerance, War on Fleeting Explatitives, enforcement team–is just the free ride to beauruacratic job security and retirement you have been looking for.  Entry Level!  If you have never used, or uttered the “F” word, you can begin work immediately!

I am described as a male to female identified individual (transsexual), who feels quite normal as a female, and passes well in most all public settings as a female.

I have posted over one hundred and twenty articles, etc. in this journal, and this is the first post which introduces and describes my trans gendered “second” life, and how I came to adopt it, going on eighteen years ago, now!

How I came to feel absolutely comfortable in this role from the beginning is a story of conditioning ones’ self to accept the uncomfortable; to accept the unthinkable.

However, its just not that big of a deal for me, really.  I do not wish to seem narcissistic about myself–but hey–you did not see what I saw in the mirror, looking back at me one summer day, back in 1991!

I saw myself like I had never seen myself or thought of myself before, in my life.  I saw what I might look like had I been born a female–close that is; I say that because if I was a woman from birth, I would be similar but much prettier, due to earlier estrogen presence at puberty, and the cultural/social conditioning which goes with it.

So, I got a late start right at age forty.  Midlife crisis.  Believe me, it is real, it can make you do things you never dream in a million years, you would ever do!  But I am happy this way; it fits, it helps me cope with being single, (alas, it’s not a cure for loneliness), and being creative in my art–which is writing and photography.

It’s been nineteen years now, I’ve had my lovers from both sides of the gender line, is that TMI? TB!  But I’ll NEVER stop loving or being attracted to women, ever!

And, it affects my writing or lack of.  Too many dead and dying people out there.  Too much bad news.  Too much caring, believing, hoping.  It all dies whenever someone else dies for lack of it.

I die daily.  I just shut down.  TMI (too much information).   I sleep to find comfort in death’s living sister, that murky slumber, where nothing but weird dreams exist, but are of no concern.  A nap a day keeps the blues away–some times I must sleep all day–it does help.

I am very upset that Eugene’s only informative, and desperately needed, broadcaster of the news, discussion; politely spoken without hate, or offense, commentary programming KOPT has provided–hangs by a thread because of this station change. I have heard about it, I am very disappointed for us all, it certainly will make it more difficult for listeners to remain connected to Air America broadcasts; and it leaves us all with the question: what the hell does it take to stay informed around here!

I hope that those who are dedicated to passing the torch here in Eugene, can and will do whatever is necessary to get a station up again somewhere on the dial, to continue informing, uniting, and attracting more listeners with a top-notch line-up of speakers that we can feel comfortable calling, or speaking and listening to; we deserve no less; and we should be able depend on there always being such a station on the dial, like KOPT, to provide news that other stations either ignore, repeat, slant, or neglect to report in depth.

KOPT’s presence has been and remains crucially important, for keeping us informed, as no other station here in Eugene is doing, except that of public radio, which I have also found inadequate to keep us informed, while our leaders in Congress investigate and work to expose and undo, the criminal and treasonous acts of the Bush administration.

We are again facing the difficult task of sorting out another pack of all-to-eager, power hungry, candidates, and eliminating ones who will take us nowhere but down and /or backwards —that describes most of them–from the best one who, if they can get elected in an uncorrupted election, will protect and defend our constitution, and system of government, maintain and rebuild our military readiness, care for our returning troops, the list goes on and on because in reality, we as a nation are falling apart physically, mentally, and spiritually.

So many of our problems are being caused by selfishness and resentment by the wealthy towards the poor, as well as an intense resentment towards paying their taxes, which all go into one big pot, the federal reserve, if I am not mistaken. They work against the poor, and deny them from in any way, being assisted by used by “their” government’s money—to assist people, while they are simultaneously being used as political pawns in a war to roll back the laws and rights of common people back to conditions of slavery.

The phony conservatives and religious bigots anger at being prevented from hurting others by gutting anti-discrimination laws, constitutional guarantee, church and state separation; and speaking lies to dissuade the mood of national and mainstream charity towards the less fortunate. At the same time, the total lack of any easily obtainable employment, the lack of paying jobs for everyone who needs one, is not a concern, to the wealthy, now would it be? The answer is not more jails and prisons, nor is the withholding of jobs, goods, and services to the needy, fueled by some bought and paid for demagogue’s inflammatory dirty deeds, using our local stations to further such propaganda. Enemy!

Candidate Thomson opened his mouth yesterday to warn those of wealth, of the return of the welfare state. That warning is also to the middle class taxpayers to expect to have to pay for it. Resorting to incite class warfare for votes makes me sick; and he is so disqualified. Enemy!

Listening to KOPT, and Air America, I am relieved to find that at least in terms of listening ease, and overall satisfaction, I do not have to worry about that at all, because all of the hosts are very interesting to listen to, they know their stuff, and they speak in a much more pleasing tone, are able to become like listening to a trusted friend.

I want to be able somehow to listen to a local station   airing Ed Schultz, who is just the most refreshing voice from a good-natured personality that instantly makes a heart-connection towards every listener, every caller, having a high degree of self-confidence. He has no need to lower himself by resorting to abusing the privileges of that microphone, as an opportunity to bash the already despised and downtrodden, which bear the brunt of societies acquisitions, most of it false. Friend!

Those who realize the great importance of these broadcasts locally, I hope will be able to rescue listeners from being suddenly cut off from hearing the truth; untainted by the foaming mouthed, selfish, deniers of the welfare towards the poorer class, or the weasel liars who’s advertised radio talents amount to nothing more than hype; and instead, continue hearing decent, professional, polite, and deeply concerned, and well informed, talk show hosts–every one from Air America, I greatly respect.

I do not give a damn about conservative or liberal finger pointing, extremist left or right or progressive or regressive blame shifting, or any of the one-sided, narrow-minded, divide and conquer’em labeling or positioning upon the map of politics. When every other word is the L-word, or something else, I get tired of hearing it. It’s McCarthy all over again. I have listened to and used radio for over forty years. The quality, diversity, and lack of choices here, save for a few good station, station formats, has maintained a near useless babble of mostly junk stories, that no one really needs to know as a matter of national urgency, mixed with a variety of useful subject neutral, information shows, as well as sports and religious programming—useless, mindless, distraction.

What is referred to as “right wing” talk radio, its hosts, whose names are mostly well known, they are nationally syndicated; such as Rush Limbaugh, who I call, the voice for the anti-poor capitalist-you-know-what. His meteoric rise to fame and popularity on the airwaves, was by using a clever mix of current events news commentary seasoned to the hosts particular, elite point of political vs. class viewpoint, which is quite often personal in nature; with a persistent focus on social welfare and assistance issues which are known wedges, as well as the obvious minorities   who are connected with them.

Just as important as the subject content of any radio stations speaker is to me–is who is their intended target audience, which portion of their audience they are, for the sake of the almighty dollar, willing to sacrifice; and what is the attitude by which they communicate to their overall listening audience, how many listeners who hear or identify with that speech, might be benefited or incited to actions or behaviors of social bigotry, harassment, and crime against local people on the streets.

Instead, we’re given more agenda-driven programs, which by design, keep the listening public in state of ignorance, while entertaining them so they’ll continue to listen, by throwing in the worst of humanity’s traits with insult, conflict, lies, and taking sides for entertainment, and   competition for the most power and tyranny over others.

I would not want to be again, left with only a station like KPNW, for example, which airs, promotes, and supports the verbally brutal, offensive, bigoted, and condemning, trash -mouth, known as Lars Larson. How dare anyone suggest that any another station should be encouraged, or provided for that #%#!!! Why? So he can spew his bigotry and hate to unite the whole world against innocent local citizens?

I was wanting to avoid ever thinking about him again, I have been wanting to speak out against him and complain to the station for a long time, and with all due respect to you, Ted and who ever reads this reply, but seeing the mere suggestion of support for Lars by a previous post here, upon my first visit to this blog, is all I needed to be moved to express here my support for KOPT, and at the same time, use the program of a competitor station to illustrate just how impossible it would be to hear anything worth having a radio for at all, as far as I am concerned. To be fair, I intend to send copy of this to others involved.

Without programming like KOPT, this is what we’re stuck with:

Lars Larson, who has successfully achieved the ability to proudly bad mouth up and down the entire NW; he takes calls from across the nation. His negativity is spreading like a virus, and he is affecting—or infecting, others like him to think and behave negatively—towards those least able to fight back.

KPNW, whose philosophy in their choice of talk show personalities seems to be:

Lets send the message to all impressionable listeners, that here in Oregon, the long standing tradition of bigotry and discrimination is proudly upheld, along with the every domestic enemy of freedom and human rights, to profit from championing the cause of discrimination, to encourage the selfish-minded fools for God, to repeatedly return to Salem to attack, and to destroy portions of that which protects us as equal citizens.

This station has turned a blind eye to those who use hate-speech to denigrate minorities, and influence the state laws or elections in order to legally allow religious zealots backed by their churches, to legally discriminate, cause the loss of jobs and homes of innocent people, and follow the same identical social movement as Hitler did. In addition to the Jews, he, and his deceived henchmen condemned gays, lesbians, homeless, prostitutes disabled, elderly, etc. and every other minority he considered useless a’social, who were shortly thereafter, rounded up for disposal. Enemy!

This is no less distasteful or offensive to me than a KKK demonstration, or any other form of hate speech, or holocaust deniers, or those other disgusting group of pseudo-religious hate-mongers who show up at the family funerals of our soldiers that have died for their country, to harass and condemn them, in person, in the name of who? Enemy!

Yes, I agree, Lars Larson should be given the right somewhere–to say whatever he wants, but, any sensible, community-minded employer, should demand of those we must listen to, respect and sensitivity towards those local listeners, not to use that stations broadcast facilities to vent personal resentments, insults, and other vicious attacks against–yes, I said citizens who are homeless, against the private and personal relationships of gays and lesbians, and their marital affairs;

Someone should have, long ago, replaced him, and his dirty-mouth, after a firm warning to clean up his speech. The same applies to Rush Limbaugh, although he isolates himself very well, and at least has a sense of humor I used to be able to at least listen to him, now he’s so foaming at the mouth obsessive about L’s that I cannot even stand to hear him either. Thus, KOPT has been the only alternative, other than the Internet sites that each talk show host has, provided low-income citizens can afford Internet access.

Lars Larson can still exercise his crude, distorted, and self-righteous crap; and just to give him the fullest possible sense of still being a talk radio personality, lets give him a CB radio, and warn him not to trespass onto the frequencies of our broadcast radios! Shame on all those stations who support this parasite; I must say your standards of broadcast excellence with him in your programming, are in the toilet.

I am outraged that he is sanctioned by FCC licensed stations, gets a microphone, and a paycheck to insult, belittle, and to rally his like-minded listening audience, to incite ongoing hatred, which leads to violence, to oppose civil rights, housing, and employment rights for gays, lesbians and trans gendered people; and to influence negative legislation away from us, or against those of us he despises. He loves to attack every chance he gets. He’s rude, nasty, and will not tolerate listeners to ever finish unless he agrees with them; how or why in the world this arrogant, over-paid, over hyped, radio bully gets away with making a living by thriving on the popularity he attracts when he attacks.

This foul-mouthed hate-monger doggedly refuses to stop referring to all the homeless and panhandlers as “bums”! This degrading slur is no less hurtful than Imus’s “nappy-headed –mistake” that got him fired. But here’s the difference: Imus, as far as I know, only said what he said one time, and I think it was a slip—a poor choice at that moment; which is why I feel after this amount of time, he should be given another chance. I hope that if and when Imus does return, I am able to hear what he has to say to his audience his first day back on the job—it ought to be very interesting. Update: he is back.

Whereas Lars Larson says bum like a word picture implant which he speaks into every ones ear repetitively intending to reinforce stereotyped memories, and to manipulate public perception negatively towards all low income and homeless. He does not differentiate. To him, by definition, they are all tramps, vagrants, and lazy, shiftless, begging, freeloading, obnoxious, people; and that includes the disabled, both veterans, non-veterans, and families as well.

His discourse when discussing issues related more reminds me of what is commonly heard on some of the CB radio channels, and he is unfit, in my opinion, to rate as anything more than a mouth-piece for his bigot listener base; and, it seems, it must be a profitable deal for the stations who syndicate Lars, and the advertisers who buy air time; and therefore they are all partners in discrimination with this hypocrite, who’s so patriotic, and freedom loving, he fights for the rights of voters–except of course when they vote for the right to medical marijuana; and no prohibition so that we can all sip good whiskey, but yes prohibition against law abiding citizens smoking marijuana in the privacy of their homes–no way, Lars hates that too. And whatever Lars Larson is against, Lars gets paid for–what a deal. I think this is why he gets away with it. Let me be the first one to demand of stations that carry Lars to at least order him to clean up the attitude, or pack up his desk!

This is a prime example of how not to serve the entire listening area, except that some are made victims for controversy’s sake. Needless to say, I have stopped listening to that a-hole, and the station as well, for good until they cancel him. As a listener, I have personally suffered enough of his mental and emotional distress when I was homeless, living in the freaking wetlands, like an abandoned animal; and it certainly did not make me feel any better about my situation hearing myself and others referred to as a bums every other day. Well, today, thankfully, I am no longer homeless over a year, and he and all the rest of his ilk can go straight to hell! I do not even wish to hear his voice again. Enemy!

It has been recently reported that nationwide, there is a sharp rise of senseless acts physical violence, and murder against the homeless, by street gangs and teenage punks. I have no doubt that they have been influenced by the very same attitudes, and hate-speech, and this is what you will get.

What a coincidence. Just yesterday, we were told about the rise of gangs right here in town. What we broadcast is exactly what we will get–more crimes against innocent minorities, and more school bullies. The worst possible mistake we could ever make would be to let any would-be thugs hear and be encouraged by some angry, disturbed individual who suddenly becomes their favorite bum-fighting, hero of the airwaves.

What ever happened to the days of public accountability, when stations had to maintain FCC standards of broadcast information, and public service, or else have their license revoked?
